Exercise and Your kids
I don’t know about you, but when I was a kid I would get home from school and I was out on my bike until my Mom begged me to come back in. For some reason we have migrated more indoors than out, leaving our kids with habits that will cause challenges when they are older. Exercise doesn’t mean locking yourself in a gym for an hour a day (and this I say to all you parents out there also!).
Play, Climb, Run, you name it. We live in such an amazing place with the outdoors at our footsteps. Your job is to encourage your kids to get out there and PLAY. Agility, Coordination, and Strength don’t have to be found in a structured sport, the playground is a wonderful place to develop these skills. Kicking a ball, riding a bike, or just climbing around will give your child the needed skills for sports and exercise for years to come. It is all about habits, and our children are at an age to develop these skills easily and proficiently, if we encourage too much indoor activity these skills will lie dormant and will require so much more to develop a few years down the line.
The key is to have fun! Enjoy play with your children, unstructured play, and they will develop the skills for any sport when the time is right!
