Food for School
Welcome Back to School! With these days here and in full gear, many attributes start to shine through and they may not be easy to manage. Ultimately we want our tots to focus, learn, and enjoy every moment in school. Your goal is to nourish them with high quality foods that lead them to a successful day.
Mental Focus and Alertness requires good quality proteins and fat. Focus on Essential Fatty Acids that are high in Omega 3’s such as eggs (organic Free Range – Pasture Fed), Flax Seeds, Hemp Seeds, and Walnuts, to name a few.
Immune Support requires a lot of fruits and vegetables to maintain high levels of nutrition throughout the body. Focus on the ones that are Dark and Rich in color – these are the ones with the highest nutritional punch. Remember that sugar suppresses the immune system for up to 4 hours and school is the one place we want a high immune system. Keep sugary treats to a minimum and your child’s immune system will flourish.
Energy and Stamina requires good quality proteins and fats so that calories are dispersed throughout the body slowly; this keeps a child satisfied longer without a feeling of sudden hunger. Focus on organic, hormone and antibiotic free meats, poultry, and fish.
Good Temperament requires that the body feel rested and full. In other words, your tot needs a good 8 hours of sleep and has a breakfast that concentrates more on protein and fat, so that calories linger in their systems longer as opposed to sugary cereals. They also need a lunch that gives a nutritional punch for all of the after school activities!
