Holidays and Birthday Parties
Its that time of the year with holiday parties going strong, not to mention all the birthdays throughout the year. You want to keep your child on a healthy path but at the same time you really don’t want to be one of those parents who dampen the fun.
It is not as difficult as it may seem. First and foremost, always feed your child a hefty meal that includes good quality proteins and fats before you go to any event. This assures you that your child is not famished. Fats and proteins take longer to digest which will keep the calories in the system for a longer period of time. This is ideal so that your child won’t eat everything in sight and if they do, they won’t eat nearly what they could on an empty stomach.
Also, plan your party days well, you know they will get an overabundance of process foods, so keep any meals before or after the event as pure as possible…fruits, vegetables, proteins, and good quality fats. Load your child up on water so they are fully hydrated without any excess sugar.
I realize its nice to have a party so that its one less meal you have to plan, but keep in mind how foods affect your child. An overabundance of processed foods and sugar will have them bouncing off the walls. Protect yourself by loading them up on the good stuff before they go and hopefully you’ll come home with simply a tired kid!
One last thing…If you’re the party host, concentrate your efforts on the activities the children will do at the party. These will have long-lasting memories as opposed to the treats you serve that will be forgot soon after the event.
